    Picky About Wayland

I’ve been holding off using the Wayland session on elementary OS because my favourite colour picking app called Picker wouldn’t work. Just discovered that this has been forked to a new app called Cherrypick which has the XDG thingy to make it work on Wayland, so hurrah for that

    Green With Grace

I think green is fast becoming my new favourite colour ousting 40 odd years of blue dominance. Maybe it’s because I miss my recently given up home office space that overlooked a meadow. I’ve always like designing with the more emerald tones of green and since the office move, foliage themed wallpapers are dominating the desktop computer. Emerald green has now also taken over the colour palette of this and see also my new cover image courtesy of Greg Rosenke on Unsplash Green is of course a colour that represents God’s grace and it does feel as though there is a fresh grace in this season of life to do stuff that we’re called to.

NowTunes – A Desktop Now Playing Widget Application

I know that AI get’s a lot of stick these days and rightly so in some cases, but I have made something using it that I consider to be really cool and genuinely useful. I’ve always loved having a nice looking mini-player on my desktop that displays album art for the music app I’m using and have been impressed how KDE Plasma has a the media player widget that can do this for anything that’s playing, even if it’s streaming Spotify or Soundcloud in a browser. As I sometimes use elementary OS and GNOME, I’ve missed having a cool looking desktop widget in these environments that display my Now Playing tunes and it’s artwork. Even though I can install Soundcloud, Mixcloud and Spotify as web…

  • ChatGPT Top Tip No.1

ChatGPT Top Tip No.1: When asking AI to create written content (a fantastic tool for us non-writers!) I’ve started to add something like “dial back overuse of buzzwords” to the prompt. It definitely cuts down the BS sounding element that’s so common with AI generated text

  • A Sharp X-it

It’s finally done, I’ve deleted all of my accounts on X, the artist formally known as Twitter In recent years I’ve only been using it for consuming football content anyway, and even post Musk lock down I was able to find a couple of third party apps that could access feeds, but lo these eventually stopped displaying media. I tried to use the official app but after a week or so of the inescapable hate content I decided that after 16 years it was time to pull the trigger. Viva la Fediverse and the open web.

  • Sticking It To The Man (Utd)

Leicester play away at Manchester Utd tonight in the 4th round of the FA Cup and were given a ticket allocation of 8,000. In protest at the extortionate £50 a ticket that Utd have priced it at, we’ve only taken 1,300 of them. Sticking it to the Man (Utd)

    Filtration For The Mind Station

Decided to filter out the keywords associated with those at the top of global politics, as my timelines have become swamped with it and it’s quite frankly tiresome. Trying to take in the weight of the world’s problems is not my responsibility. All I can do is try to be a positive outlet in the little sphere of society God has placed me in. Maybe if we all just focused on the spheres that we’re graced with, then we’d see the change we long for. Just a thought.

  • Bestest House Mix Of 2024

This mix by D’lex came out just before Christmas and it’s been on repeat since. It’s hand’s down the best House mix I heard in 2024 and probably the past few years. It’s Friday so turn it up loud!

    Early Viktor Blueberry Mash

I made a wallpaper for my elementary OS desktop, which fuses the Early Access and Viktor Forgacs wallpapers, that I call “Early Viktor Blueberry Mash”! I created it with my dual monitor setup in mind and if it takes your fancy then you can get it here: https://markjones.cloud/early-viktor-blueberry-mash
